Outstanding Young Farmer Achievement 1999 Canada

Scott and Lisa are both graduates of Olds Agricultural College. Scott began farming in 1986 with a few cows built up through 4-H projects. Lisa joined in 1990 and 200 cows were added in the first expansion phase. Through extensive use of embryo transplant technology and A.I., their initial herd has evolved into a large seed stock operation with 400 breeding females. They now maintain two purebred herds (Gelbvieh and Red Angus) and a commercial herd on a 1500 acre land base.

Embryos, semen and live cattle are currently exported into Argentina, Australia, New Zealand, China, Brazil and the United States. Commercial calves have been marketed as sides of beef straight from the farm gate. Timothy hay for export to Japan has been a recent cash crop addition to their farm operation.

Scott and Lisa have successfully shown their cattle throughout North America for the past ten years accumulating numerous awards and titles for their efforts. In 1996, they were named Alberta Purebred Breeder of the Year. For the past two years, they have bred and owned all four champion Gelbvieh cattle at Canadian Western Agribition. In 1999, they were the first Canadian producer to have bred and owned both Denver National Stock Show champion bulls. They were named "Premier Breeder" at the same show.
