Timothy Hay

We were looking to diversify and expand into the timothy export market. It fits in very well with our cattle operation in terms of equipment and land usage. It also gives us the option of feeding it to our cows if the weather does not cooperate at harvest time. We have exported our timothy hay to Japan the past three years. It is used mainly in their dairy industry as a source of fiber.

The hay has to be put up very dry, 10% moisture or less which can be very difficult at times. After harvest is complete, we are able to graze the crop aftermath. Central Alberta is well suited for growing timothy with its abundance of rain fall and its cool nights. The harvest takes place in early August which allows us to get some fall grazing in September and October.
